Favorite paths and network shares

Favorite paths are your list of favorite places: folders on disk and folders on saved FTP/SFTP servers.

Favorite Paths menu — F2

F2 (the F2 Menu button at the bottom of the window) opens the Favorite Paths window.

The list shows the name and the path; favorites on a server are marked "[FTP / SFTP: connection name]".
Enter, a double-click or Open opens the selected favorite in the active panel.
Add creates a favorite for the current folder of the active panel (you can change the path).
Edit changes the selected favorite.
Delete removes the favorite immediately, without asking.
To change the order, drag items with the mouse.
Close or Esc closes the window. The app saves changes to the list when the window closes.

Adding a favorite

The quickest way: go to the folder and click the star button on the toolbar (Add current path to favorites). The Edit Favorite window opens with the path already filled in. After OK the favorite goes to the end of the list, and "Added favorite: …" appears in the window title.

Field	Description
Name	e.g. "Projects"; empty = the last part of the path (for a server: "connection: folder")
Type	Local or FTP / SFTP
Remote connection	a saved FTP/SFTP connection — only for the FTP / SFTP type
Path	e.g. `~/Documents` or `/public_html`

When the panel is connected to a server, the window sets the FTP / SFTP type and the connection name for you.

Opening a favorite

Local favorite — the panel goes to the folder. If the folder does not exist, you see "Favorite … points to an unavailable path".
Favorite on a server — the app connects using the saved connection and opens the given folder right away, in the panel from which you opened the favorites. If the connection has been removed from the list, the app tells you.

Opening a favorite closes an archive open in the panel and disconnects the server the panel was connected to.

Network shares

SMB, AFP and NFS shares mounted by the system are ordinary folders to FlyingFiles: they appear on the drive bar, and a favorite pointing to a folder on a share works like any other.

Automatic mounting (macOS)

On macOS the app remembers where each share you have visited comes from (e.g. smb://server/Public). When you later open a favorite pointing to a folder on that share and the share is not mounted (e.g. after restarting the computer):

"Connecting to the network share smb://…" appears in the window title.
The app asks the system to mount the share. The system takes the password from the Keychain, and if it is not there, shows its own login window.
Once the share is mounted, the panel goes to the folder from the favorite.

If the server does not respond within the Network share connect timeout setting (10 s by default), you see "Could not connect to …".

Warning: Mounting works with favorite paths. A path to an unmounted share typed by hand into the path field simply will not open — mount the share in Finder or use a favorite.

Windows

On Windows you can type a network address such as \\server\share into the path field, or use a mapped network drive with a drive letter. The system takes care of signing in to the share.
